What is emotional granularity?

Why precise emotion words help you understand yourself and respond with more choice.

More precise than “good” or “bad”

Emotional granularity is the ability to distinguish between similar feelings. “Bad” might mean lonely, guilty, overstimulated, disappointed or afraid. Each word points to a different need.

The more precise the word, the easier it becomes to choose a response that actually fits.

Why it matters

When feelings stay vague, people often use vague solutions: scroll, withdraw, over-explain or push through. When the feeling is clearer, the next step can be smaller and kinder.

Mindlee is built around this idea of emotional clarity: name what is happening, notice the pattern, then choose one next move.

A simple exercise

Write one sentence: “I am not just upset, I may be…” Try three possible words. You do not have to publish them or defend them. You are training your inner vocabulary.
